Hyperfootnoting February 6, 2007

In this world of Google and the importance of links – why can’t footnotes and hyperlinks be one in the same?  Instead of having dead superscript numbers, why not have the numbers hyperlinked to small pop-ups that would contain the footnote?  Traditional footnotes could still be included at the bottom of the page, but that would allow readers more diversity in how they read, prevent the necessary task of scrolling up and down, and presumabley would make the site more appealing to Google.  Seems logical to me.

Yeah, so I actually posted this before I did many of the readings. I guess I was onto a good idea because this is what most of the virtual readings for this week were advocating. I wonder though, does having links to pop-ups affect one’s Google score?
